Kathleen and I set out in the morning and walked the grounds of Mindo Gardens. They had hummingbird feeders and we sat and watched the calamity of representatives of a half dozen species joust for doses of sugar and water. Ounce for ounce, hummingbirds have to be the feistiest birds on the planet.
As our taxi was to arrive at 9:30am to haul us to Hotel Sachatamia, Kathleen and I breakfasted up and checked out. Dinner, room, and breakfast at Mindo Gardens came to $87. For where we stayed and the accommodations . . . that’s a screamin’ deal!!Within 20-minutes, our taxi dropped us off at Sachatamia.
We would spend one night here before going back to Quito for our 9:20am flight to the Galapagos Islands on the 17th. Kathleen and I spent the rest of the day watching hummingbirds and walking about the trails south of the hotel. Photographing hummingbirds can almost be addicting for reasons such as this Booted Racket-tail.
Kathleen was getting a fix here.
Along one of the trails, we found what we figured to be a rope swing. Well, you’ve got try the rope swing!
By early evening we were walking out of the forest in into the dining room for a nice pasta meal. We’d had a nice soup and salad combo for lunch and craved pasta for dinner. We spent a quiet evening in our nice cabana overlooking the forest.
